Discover Boracay Dining, March - April 2007
Story by: Dick Molenaar,
This
time, BoracaySpot, was able to assign a team of
culinary experts at Boracay to report their experiences:
The
team was composed of:
|
| Ms.
Nelleke
|
Chef
of the famous, (by French authority Michelin) ** (two) star restaurant “Apicius”
located at Bakkum, the Netherlands.
From the Top 100 list of the best restaurants,
Apicius ranks Number 29, meaning in this
competition only 28 score higher in the whole
country, of the Netherlands.
Before she worked at “TOV” bistro-restaurant
in Schagen in the Netherlands, what you
pronounce as "tof", meaning thumbs up and a well sought specialty
restaurant.
|
|
| Ms.
Luella |
Sous-chef
of the also famous Midzomernachtsdroom (Midsummer
nights dream) restaurant, located at Hoorn,
in the Netherlands, with a wide area of experience,
to name a few, the world-famous "Zaansche Schans",
located at Zaandam in the Netherlands, the"
Schoorlse Heeren" located at Schoorl in the
Netherlands and at the "Club Med" located at
Lindeman Island, part of the Whitsunday Islands,
at the great Barrier reef in Australia. At the
moment invited among the Dutch Top Chefs Ron
Blaauw, Cees Helder and more, all Michelin
awarded executive chefs, to cook for a purpose. |
|
We
asked them to report their findings and BoracaySpot
shows this, uncensored at the BoracaySpot website
page about Dining:
First a remark, if any of the visited restaurants
or related accommodation likes to comment, or reply,
this will immediately added to the comment made.

PARADISO
GRILL / ATTICA: |
Italian
Foods, we order pizza " Juliet" (stuffed with
mango, pesto and mozzarella cheese} and a pizza"
love meat" {stuffed with ham, bacon and pepperoni).
The comments: very good tasting but thin pizza
crust a little to hard but full of good taste
and the use of the correct Cheese is appreciated.
The comment: Inexpensive! |
Note:
Here I like to add, that when I was at Boracay
at the Rotary District Conference, beginning
of March 2007, my Group, composed of Dr. Rick
and spouse Ester Zander, a Rotary volunteer,
based at Bacolod City, Greg and Jacky Pensa
from Califonia and Mr. Kris Kersten, we order
Pizza "Napolitana" (stuffed with pepperoni,
olives, capers and anchovies, topped with
mozzarella cheese), grilled Bigggggg shrimps
with a butter/garlic" massage" during grilling
and Blue Marlin fillet from the grill. Only
happy faces ! My personal comment though is,
the cheap cutlery, and I was afraid to bend
it, while consuming the pizza of good taste.

MANGO
RAY RESORT:
|
We
Ordered
breakfast, which is offered Filipino, American
and Continental.
A variety of choices is offered to extend the
basic breakfast, like how you like to have your
egg, what kind of fruits, your favorite fruit
shake and if you prefer ham above bacon.
The comment: only that the toasted bread
is stone hard. |
|
|
CASA
PILAR:
|
This
restaurant was almost full with guest, and not
even high season, but very comfortable and caring
staff and not to forget "Cozy".
We choice a fresh Lobster, perfectly done,(
only 800 grams is 2,000 pesos !!) and a perfect
tasted sizzling Tenderloin Steak.
The comment: is that the ordered beer was not
cold (that's why we got ice cubes in our glass!!!!!!??????). |
|
CAFE
DEL MAR:
A
perfect place to lounge after having a good
meal, comfortably in lazy chairs, extremely
nice lounge music to give you the feeling to
be at at "cloud 9".
Good serving
staff too.
|
HOBBIT
HOUSE:
Very
good Hamburgers, only the French Fries are floated
in oil, but good tasting Spaghetti.
The comment: friendly serving staff and the French
fries should be fried, not cooked in oil! |
|
AUSTRALIAN
STEAKHOUSE:
|
The
ambiance is attractive and a full house with
guests, only the menu card offered 5 main courses
(meat) but the only one available was a T-Bone Steak.
The Capriccio floated in oil and lemon juice,
so the hot meat was not recognizable, despite
a little parmesan cheese and chopped garlic,
disgusting…
The T Bone Steak was over cooked in stead of
rare medium as requested (that's a common problem
in Asia) The fried potatoes did well at least
More comment: The service is a big Zero! The
main course was put on the table in between
the plates of the finished entrée's. |
|
PAT
CREEK BAR /BOMBOM:
|
Good
lounging, including the good music at the beach
And absolutely yummy Caiparinia's… without kernels.
No comments, we enjoy well. |
|
COCOMANGAS
RESORT AND SHOOTER BAR:
A
very good place to dance and/or drink with good
music, plenty local guests, including the white
ones. You have to pick up your drinks at the
bar! |
|
JONAH'
S SHAKES:
Good
entertainment of Reggae music by the Reggae
Man, we enjoy and luckily they play there but
moving along the whole beach. |
|
LEMON
I CAFÉ (the Mall):
Absolute
good coffee and yummy French bread with Cinnamon,
Mango Yoghurt…
Very European designed as well the European
Menu Card. Perfectly organized |
|
EL
TORO:
Not
the first time there, but mostly good food, and
a caring Staff, only at a quit part of the beach
walk, we enjoy the good made Cocktails there.
The comment: Inexpensive! |
|
CHEZ
DE PARIS:
Did
lunch there, a bit messy (French Style?) Impressive
Menu card and we eat a tasty pizza, only the
French Bread with Salami does not score at all,
composed of two Thick bread, 2 slice tomato,
salad and 3 ini mini my-ni slices of salami
and probably sun-dried.
The comment:The fruit salad was though ok. |
|
SUMMER
PLACE BAR
We
hear to go partying there, up to 04.00 am, so
we did and found plenty of "whites" doing funny
things, like dancing on top of the bar and ……..
Plenty of bakla's and girly's courting rich
boy's |
|
SURF
SIDE RESORT AND SPA:
After
all, that what was needed at least, a very good
massage for one hour.
A free complementary drink and a variety of
massage oils to choose from.
You are separated in an air conditioned room
with candles alight.
Comment: Hospitality Staff, only expensive,
but we found out you can negotiate to get up
to 40% discount. |
|
FINAL
COMMENT:
Nowhere
it is perfect and always place for improvement
but, 14 hours flying time to reach Boracay is
worth the trip to be there…… and be back!
Note:
This webpage is intended to guide a big amount
of the 500.000 "tourists" at Boracay Island
for their stay there.
If any establishment feels offended or incorrectly
described, please give your comment to info@boracayspot.com
and we are happy to add this at the comments
made.
