Boracay: the new
luxury haven
Discovery
Shores
Sunday, October 08, 2006
A
garbage dump crisis, a sewage problem, depleting forests and
overpopulation are just some of the grave issues that continue to plague
one of the best island beaches in the world. Amid the controversies, and
the move to declare some of its areas forestlands, Boracay remains a
bustling tourism spot that will soon open its doors to luxury travelers.
Here are two new resort developments on the island that will give us more
reasons to frequent the immaculate Visayas haven.
Discovery comes to Boracay
The
Class A resort Discovery Shores Boracay will formally open in February
2007, marking the expansion of HSAI-Raintree’s Discovery brand of hotels
and resorts in the country.
The
resort is a sprawling beachfront property that includes 88 luxurious
guestrooms and a world-class spa overlooking the beach. Located on the
island’s exclusive Station 1, it will feature guestrooms and facilities
designed by Budji Layug and the Royal Pineda Architecture Planning and
Interior Design.
Discovery
Shores is intended to be a modern tropical resort. Its architecture,
interiors and landscape are designed to fit the environment’s culture,
time and topography.
W.V. Coscolluela & Associates, a Manila-based architecture firm,
incorporated Boracay’s natural surroundings into the interior spaces. The
sand, chrome and wood edifice reflect the dominant colors of the island.
Wide windows offer a nearly panoramic view of the surrounding scenery and
some bathroom windows open to private pocket gardens of lush greens. The
waterfall, a majestic 14-meter high feature, completes the landscape.
The spacious suites—ranging from 41 to 122 square meters—make them one of
the most luxurious in the island. Amenities include large, comfortable
beds; shower rooms that overlook rock gardens; a Jacuzzi in the one and
two bedroom units; and private decks that offer a breathtaking view of the
14-meter high waterfall and the resort’s landscape.
The resort is intended to embody the hallmark of the Discovery brand:
personalized service dispensed round-the-clock.
Main facilities include the Sands Restaurant, the Sandbar beach bar, the
Quicksand pool bar, Sandbox kiddie lounge, Shorelines gift shop, Discovery
Shores Spa operated by the renowned Mandala Spa, an infinity pool,
swimming pool, and recreation room. Water sports enthusiasts can indulge
in any of the programmed activities such as windsurfing, parasailing,
waterskiing, scuba diving and snorkeling.
More fun at the Fairways
The luxury golf course Fairways & Bluewater Golf Resort and Country Club
has added more facilities and activities for its guests—from horseback
riding to new accommodation spaces and a more efficient transport system.
The resort cum golf course has opened its own horse stables, started
operating the tranvias for the transport of guests, and launched the third
phase of the Mulligan Golf Hotel that added 24 studio, 2-bedroom and
3-bedroom units for non-members visiting the island. By the end of the
year, 120 more units of the Balaihara New Coast Villatels will be turned
over to Fairways management.
The Balaihara New Coast Villatels are completely furnished condominium
buildings operated as a world-class hotel.
Besides receiving a substantial percent of the net income generated from
visiting guests and families, unit owners of Balaihara condos are given 30
days free use including peak times of Holy Week, Christmas or New Year.
Another improvement is the driving range. Preparations are also being made
for the annual Fairways Chairman’s Cup in November.
